The Dreamtaker headbands are slim metal circlets with small slightly-adhesive pads along the interior. When worn by two sleeping participants, one wearer becomes the Dreamer, who remains in a regular dream-state and whose dreams determine the initial scene, while the other becomes the Director, who becomes a lucid dreamer but cannot directly enter the scene, able to introduce elements and even plotlines into the shared dream. The Dreamtaker headbands can randomly select Dreamer and Director, or can be configured to pre-select roles. They can also be configured to cause the Director to experience all sensations within the dream, or to leave the Dreamer as the sole recipient of anything that happens. Subconscious filters ensure that the Dream rejects any subjects that the Dreamer objects to with sufficient intensity, as a safety feature.
